Quotes from people way smarter than I am!

A human being is part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. We experience ourselves, our thoughts and feelings as something separate from the rest. A kind of optical delusion of consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from the prison by widening our…

Why I Am For A Single-Payer

Why I Am for a Single-Payer National Health Insurance System!

Is it just for myself that I call for single-payer?  NO!  I believe it is a better choice for all citizens. My intentions include the doctor who would, because of a brain injury caused by…

Using the word "never" in activism

As time passes I realize that using absolutes like "never" or "always" is pretty unrealistic.

A couple of years ago I was faced with having to get an emergency container of formula for my grandson because we forgot to bring it with us. The only place around was Walmart. So the decision had to be made: Do I allow my grandson to go hungry because of my political aversion to this evil corporation? Or do I (gulp) push my politics aside (which dictated that I never set foot, let alone… Continue

A New Moment

So it is the beginning of 2011 and normally I take some time to reflect on what happened in 2011, but this year I am looking forward rather than looking back. I also feel that the celebration of the start of a new year is slightly exaggerated because we are constantly renewed with each moment. We should have this celebration within our hearts with each moment we live. I am going to try to do that this moment and every moment that follows.

If I had to choose…

HAVE A BLESSED SEASON OF PEACE

"In the calming presence of God, we enter a time of perfect

peace. We drift in a sea of tranquility, knowing that

nothing can disturb us....for God is here.

As we relax and let go, we feel God's love

                enfolding and uplifting us."…

HOW ALIVE IS THE GLOBAL PEACE MOVEMENT?

Friends this blog posting is not an indictment of you personally, so kindly don't take my sincere efforts to awaken our community as an assault on your integrity and sincerity.

However, I find that our peace community (not this site) is rather DEAD.

Why would I make such a statement?  Because after years of attending meetings, rallies, boycotts, hunger strikes, investing in peace related ventures, the ROI has been truly dismal.

What ROI. The…

Happy Winter Solstice.....

Let us know peace.

For as long as the moon shall rise,

For as long as the rivers shall flow,

For as long as the sun will shine,

For as long as the grass shall grow,

Let us know peace.

Re-connecting with the True Meaning of the Holidays

Author

Karla Solano

I remember loving the holidays when I was a child; it was a magical time that would get started on December 8th. On this particular night every house in every neighborhood would light up the front entrance of their houses with candles, kids would play with fire crackers and fireworks would illuminate the streets of my country…Colombia; every neighbor would come out and share this fun moment of light. This celebration was in honor of the mother…

Not Quite Empty or Full

The Buddhist dogma “all life is suffering” is sometimes misunderstood. I understand why, it sounds very tragic, like a mother tucking in her child and saying, “goodnight dear, sleep well because everything is going to be awful in the morning”. But, to many on the path of enlightenment, it is a statement of reassurance. That we all must suffer is (at the same time) an unfortunate truth, a common ground we walk upon, and a reason to rise above.…

December 10th is Human Rights Day, following is the message from the secretary General of the United Nations discussing this year's theme: human rights defenders who act to end discrimination

Technical Help Need

Namaste my friends,

I have forgotten how to add a video to a blog. I tried clicking on the icon call "create link", then I paste the link address and click "o.k". It appeared in my blog text box, but when I click publish the link came out instead of the address.

What did I do wrong?

Thanks for your help :)

A Common Experience: a poem of peace

A common experience like falling in love

Is familiar to all it comes from above

But the common experience of hatred and war

Is man’s greatest crime that’s spread from afar

Many know fear and many know pain

And many know bullets that fall down like rain

Mothers cry and children scream

While fathers and sons take their place on the scene

The enemy comes in with dogged determination

To wipe out a race, a religion, a nation

While others look…
