I my opinion one of the main reasons that animal cruelty is still rife in today's modern society is because of religion. The main religions of today's modern world all put man above animals by proclaiming that Beasts/Animals do not have souls. Whether this is to justify animal sacrifice or the consumption of meat or enslaving animals to do mans bidding.
By elevating man above animals this encourages acts to be committed on animals that would be a criminal offence if committed to… Continue
What a wake up call nature provided for my heart today. After several days of my children bickering, acting out, pushing my buttons, triggering my inner child and other assorted adolescent antics I was deep in crazed parent mode. I completely stepped out of every positive parenting practice that I have not… Continue

I replied to somebody's discussion elsewhere on this site. I think it worthwhile to publish this as a blog. Reactions please...
I'm sorry to be a downer on such a well-intentioned discussion, BUT
a) Where do you get this idea that the first shot fired in the American War of Independence was "the beginning of a new age in human history"???
This is the kind of USA-centred view of History, as if the USA were the inventors of all that is good and decent, that is… Continue
I hope you're all doing well and finding that peace within you.
Sometimes, it's hard to find. When you're having a tough day, dealing with a loss of any kind, or simply in a "funk".
Music is a part of who I am. I love teaching the piano to my young students. They bring a smile to my face on the dreariest of days. Kids have such a pure honesty about them- you can't help but smile :) They tell it like it is- "Miss Ellen, you wear too much… Continue

Meditation.
Even for a small amount of time can do the soul good.
Stop too appreciate the finer things in life as often as possible.
Listen to some classical music on a rainy night.
Stare at a camp fire and make peace with the earth.
Lay in the sun and recollect your thoughts.
Roll the windows down on the highway and take off your sunglasses.
Sit and draw in your mind with your eyes closed.
All simple ways to get your few minutes of peace in every day

I just wanted to let you all know how absolutely encouraged we at Imagine This! TV have been by your passion and drive toward unity. Thank you, also, for the way you have begun to support us! We are thrilled to be apart of this!
I submitted the following comment to one of my groups on MyPeace. But I think that it deserves wider attention than the relatively small membership of that group, so I'm adding it here as a blog:
That message about the survey to choose your preference between the Whopper and the Big Mac that showed up in my e-mail inbox as having been posted on THIS thread [Vegetarian and Vegan Recipes! !!!] was truly… Continue
Nothing has done more damage to the American reputation abroad than the torture tourism - the outsourcing for torture of humans alleged to have been involved in terror. For years George W. Bush and his operatives have denied that they use torture. What about former CIA chief Tenet? No torture! Here is Senator Whitehouse of Rhode Island, asking… Continue

Green Psychology by Metzner is another book that speaks about our relationship with the earth and how that affects how we treat the earth. He makes very good points on how even one who is fairly connected to the natural environment can improve their relationship. Its another I recommend. I've just read so many lately its difficult to keep which information came from where straight so please excuse the poor review.

With the protests in Tibet since March 2008 more and more Tibetans are detained in prison. Now there are more than 6.000 Tibetans in jail.
They are often arrested and imprisoned only because of their participation in a peaceful protest. They demand for a free Tibet and the return of H.H. the Dalai Lama to Tibet. Most prisoners are a monk or a nun.
The number of executions has also increased. Since March last year more than 200… Continue

I just finished the book Microcosmos by Margulis and Sagan. It was required for a class I was taking and I was initially very intimidated with the material as some of the scientific concepts arebeyond what I know about. However, our assignment with the book was to read it from a spiritual perspective and give our thoughts on it. It is an amazing book. It is very humbling to us as human's. Life will survive with or without us. It gives much to contemplate as we are humbled. I highly recommend… Continue

"Why should there be hunger and deprivation in any land, in any city, at any table, when man has the resources and the scientific know-how to provide all mankind with the basic necessities of life?" ~Martin Luther King, Jr.
