Prem Rawat’s message has been officially recognized and appreciated for a number of years in the western part of Taiwan. On May 23, 2009, Prem Rawat was granted the key to the beautiful, ancient capital of Tainan. In a talk that focused on Tainan’s history — as a religious and cultural capital of Taiwan and the site of the…

The Myth of the Guru

"The thing about the guru in the West is that he represents an alien principle, namely, that you don’t follow your own path, you follow a given path. And that’s totally contrary to the Western spirit! Our spirituality is of the individual quest, individual realization--authenticity in your own life out of your own center. "

As someone who has chosen to have a "Guru" for almost 40 years of my life, this statement by Joseph Cambell, the great educator and author of The Power of Myth is… Continue

I am just me: an interview

Interview with Prem Rawat, also known as Maharaji

Q: A person in your position will be described or defined by many people. How would you describe yourself?

PR: I’m me. I am a human being. Many things have been said about me. Many of these things have come from people’s own emotions, good or bad. I’m proud to be a human being. I am very happy that I have this life. I am also happy that I can feel joy and pain like everyone else. I’m happy being me. Some people would love… Continue

Childhood Images and Deeper Desires

I remember being about 12 years old sitting in church, looking at the statues, listening to the choir and feeling that life must be about something really, really important...that there must be something incredible I was supposed to know, to feel. I assumed it must have been related to God, love, truth...the usual suspects!

I also remember feeling afraid, because I didn’t see those amazing ideals and concepts manifesting around me. I had a… Continue

Near Death Experiences

During a surgical procedure, I died for awhile, went through the light and met you-know-who.

God greeted me at the Pearly Gates. "Are you hungry," he asked?

"I could eat," I replied.

God opened a can of tuna, unwrapped a loaf of white bread, and we began to share it. While eating the humble sandwich, I looked down into Hell and saw the inhabitants devouring huge lobsters, vegetables, fresh breads, desserts. Curious, but deeply trusting, I remained… Continue

Any Time But Now

I was listening to someone interviewing Hillary Clinton earlier this year, discussing the historic nature of her campaign as a possible first female US president. Here’s what hit me.

While history IS being made it’s so anti-climatic compared to the feeling we get from reading about it long after it's over. It’s too normal, almost mundane to be watching some gal in a brown pantsuit talk about the drama unfolding before us. It’ll be much cooler to read about Hillary Rodham Clinton in… Continue

Hippies, Freaks and Inner Peace

I first heard about the topic of inner peace, many years ago and could not have been less interested. I heard people talking about Prem Rawat, also called Maharaji, and that he could show me how to go within and other, in my view, conceptual ideas. It didn't resonate with me at all. I assumed it was something to do with spirituality, which was not on my to-do list and still isn't.

So how did I end up,years later, learning from this man, calling… Continue

‎"Why should there be hunger and deprivation in any land, in any city, at any table, when man has the resources and the scientific know-how to provide all mankind with the basic necessities of life?"
