The human rights scandal now known as "Abu Ghraib" began its journey toward exposure on Jan. 13, 2004, when Spc. Joseph Darby handed over horrific images of detainee abuse to the Army's Criminal Investigation Command (CID). The next day, the Army launched a criminal investigation. Three and a half months later, CBS News and the New Yorker published photos and stories that introduced the world to devastating scenes of torture and suffering inside the decrepit prison in Iraq.

El escándalo de derechos humanos ahora conocido como "Abu Ghraib" comenzó su viaje a la luz publica el 13 de Enero del 2004, cuando el Especialista Joseph Darby hizo entrega al Comando de Investigación Criminal del Ejercito (CID) de fotografías espantosas del abuso de detenidos. Al día siguiente el Ejercito comenzó una investigación criminal. Tres meses y medio mas tarde, CBS y la revista New Yorker publicaron las fotografías e historias que introdujeron al mundo a escenas devastadoras de tortura y sufrimiento dentro de la antigua prisión en Irak.
