31 cents of every health care dollar spent is wasted on administrative expenses and insurer profits in the US system. This is why the US spends double what other industialized nations spend on health care yet has worse outcomes. We need to save that money and spend it on better health care for you, me, and all Americans. Our system is sick and dying, and this is the cure.
A report just released by california nurses association states that PacificCare denies 20% of health insurance claims The insurance industry spends 50 BILLION $ a year in legal bills and administative costs denying claims. The average doctor according to the AMA spends 2 hours daily arguing with insurance adjusters who are afffiliated with private insurance companies.
According 2008 bankruptcy stats 1.1million people filed for bankruptcy Sixty four percent % filed because of unpaid medical bills as the contributing factor. That means daily 2000 people file for bankruptcy due to unpaid medical bills. According to new stats just released bankruptcy filings are up 36 % or if everything stays the same the last quarter of the year 1.5 million will file for bankruptcy in 2009.
If public option healthcare reform passes it stands to reason that bankruptcy filings next year would decrease 64 %. Since foreclosure stats run pretty much close to bankruptcy stats it stands to reason that 2 out of 3 homes foreclosed is due to people being either underinsured ornot insured at all. By the way 75 % of the people who filed for bankruptcy due to unpaid medical bills were underinsured. The next time a congressmen says they are fiscally conservative and they say they intend to vote against the public option they are either IQ challenged or their vote and their voice on this issue is bought and paid for by the insurance industry. There is 400 billion dollars of administrative waste in the current system involving the insurance companies. if you had a choice of chosing a insurance company who only has a 3.5 % administravie cost and a privatre company that has 31% administrative cost and profit built into their premium which company do you think most americans are going to change. Senator Grassly loves his insurance he has but he does not want his constituents a chance have choice to select the same insurance that is available to them.
