The end....

I just wanted to open up a dialogue about the many prophecies of end times. The Mayans have 2012 the Hopi have the blue star and the Christians have the return of Christ. I have much confusion on this issue. I wonder why many have prophesied of the end? I feel like man has been trying to predict the end for many generations and many seem to think they were living in end times.
