"We met Robert Bradley while shooting our first film, "Playing for Change: A Cinematic Discovery of Street Music." Robert is originally from Detroit, Michigan, but we filmed this song in Los Angeles in front of a Playing For Change graffiti wall painted by a local artist. We had just finished a take of Robert singing "Playing For Change Blues," a song we created while filming across America, and were beginning to interview him. All of a sudden he started speaking the lyrics to this song... We immediately grabbed another mic for his guitar, plugged it directly into the camera and asked him to perform it for us. Enjoy!"

This work is dedicated to the memory of Robert F. Kennedy. In 2007 I was commissioned by the City of San Jose to write a work for 2 choruses to commemorate a speech Robert F. Kennedy made in San Jose in 1968. I used a part of one of his speeches for the text of the chorus, then wrote my own text for the verses. His great quote is, "There are those who see the world the way it is, and ask why - I dream of things that never were, and ask why not?"

This performance was at the San Jose Rotunda. The groups are: Vivace Youth Chorus directed by Peggy Spool, and the San Jose Symphonic Choir

He does this in local schools to children and adults at community events. Contact him and invite him to share his story with your group. Robert Bozeman Jr. is a survivor of gun violence and a victim of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. His single minded ways nearly caused him to lose his life many times; however he refused to learn from the mistakes of others. Thinking he could get a different outcome if he just played his cards right, Robert continued to spend time in places with people he was warned were not looking out for his best interest. Ultimately, this mentality changed his life forever both physically, emotionally, and spiritually. On an evening in February of 2005, after being warned that very night not to do so, Robert went out on the town with his "friends." The outing took an almost fatal turn when an altercation broke out between one of the friends and an offended patron at the club. Shots rang out and in the end, Robert was shot in the head and left to die by his two friends. As a result of the injury, Robert spent five days in a coma fighting for his life. His recovery included him having to learn how to walk and talk all over again. Understanding how fragile life is and having been humbled by his experience, Robert has committed his new life to educating people of all ages. His message is about senselessness of gun violence as well as how choices and decisions affect their lives. His desire is to help people learn from his mistakes. Labeled "The Anti-Violence Ambassador" by the Black Affairs Advisory Board, Robert "The Messenger" Bozeman Jr. is a voice for today to speak a word of peace and inspiration to our future.
