Born on June 19th, 1945 to Burma's independence hero, Aung San, Aung San Suu Kyi was educated in Burma, India, and the United Kingdom. Her father was assassinated when she was only two years old.

In 1988, while living in London, she returned to Burma to nurse her dying mother, and was plunged into the country's nationwide uprising that had just begun. Joining the newly-forming National League for Democracy political party, Aung San Suu Kyi gave numerous speeches calling for freedom and democracy. The military regime responded to the uprising with brute force, shooting and otherwise killing up to 10,000 demonstrators â€" student, women, children, and others â€" in a mater of months. Unable to maintain its grip on power, the regime was forced to call for a general election in 1990.

As Aung San Suu Kyi began to campaign for the NLD, she and many others were detained by the regime. Despite being held under house arrest, the NLD went on to win a staggering 82% of the seats in parliament. The regime never recognized the results.

Aung San Suu Kyi has been in and out of arrest ever since. She was held from 1989-1995, and again from 2000-2002. She was again arrested and placed behind bars in May 2003 after the Depayin massacre, during which up to 100 of her supporters were beaten to death by the regime's cronies. She has moved from prison back into house arrest in late 2003 and has been held there ever since.

She has won numerous international awards, including the Nobel Peace Prize, Sakharov Prize from the European Parliament, United States Presidential Medal of Freedom, and Jawaharlal Nehru Award from India. She has called on people around the world to join the struggle for freedom in Burma, saying "Please use your liberty to promote ours."

Speech by Alexander
Directed and Produced by:
Jeffrey Karl Hellman
Shot by Seth Weiner
http://www.HONORINGHOME.com Burma's Revolution of the Spirit tag:mypeace.tv,2009-01-16:1992146:Video:30353 2009-01-16T08:50:23.590Z World Dharma https://mypeace.tv/profile/WorldDharma

Burma's Revolution of the Spirit -

A Nation's Nonviolent Struggle for Freedom

Alan Clements is the author of The Voice of Hope - Conversations with Aung San Suu Kyi -

Burma's imprisoned Nobel peace laureate and Instinct for Freedom - A Guide to Spiritual Revolution

For information on how you can use

your freedom to support Burma please

visit any…

Burma's Revolution of the Spirit -
A Nation's Nonviolent Struggle for Freedom

Alan Clements is the author of The Voice of Hope - Conversations with Aung San Suu Kyi -
Burma's imprisoned Nobel peace laureate and Instinct for Freedom - A Guide to Spiritual Revolution

For information on how you can use
your freedom to support Burma please
visit any of the following websites
and follow the links to the
Burma Project USA/Canada

http://www.AlanClements.com
http://www.WorldDharma.com
http://www.EverydayRevolution.org

Please circulate this video in support of Burma's struggle for freedom and global human rights.
Thank you.

Produced by Jeffrey Karl Hellman
http://www.JeffreyHellman.com
and World Dharma Productions
http://www.WorldDharma.com

Credit music & edited by
Jeffrey Karl Hellman

Music Provided by
Intext
http://www.MySpace.com/Intext1

Photography provided by
Stuart Isett
http://www.Isett.com
http://www.Reuters.com

Stock footage provided by
http://www.AAPPB.org
http://www.ICFAB.org
http://www.FreeBurmaRangers.org I Am Spirit tag:mypeace.tv,2008-11-24:1992146:Video:15179 2008-11-24T22:47:29.978Z Humanity's Team https://mypeace.tv/profile/HumanitysTeam

Written and Narrated by

Donna Thompson

Music Composed and Performed by

Chris Joynes of the Neptune Cult Band

"Good Sex"

from the Album, The Early Years

and

"One Foot Forward"

from the Album,

One Foot Forward Three Steps Forward

Thank you forever my friend!

Please visit the band website at…

Written and Narrated by
Donna Thompson

Music Composed and Performed by
Chris Joynes of the Neptune Cult Band

"Good Sex"
from the Album, The Early Years
and
"One Foot Forward"
from the Album,
One Foot Forward Three Steps Forward

Thank you forever my friend!

Please visit the band website at
www.mp3.com.au/neptunecultband

All of the video in this presentation can
by found at
www.archive.org

Please visit Humanity's Team
A Civil Rights Movement for the Soul

www.humanitysteam.org

WE ARE ALL ONE
