BACKGROUND:

Brit Tzedek v'Shalom is a US based Jewish peace organization of over 36,000 individuals whose mission is to educate and mobilize American Jews in support of a negotiated two-state resolutioon to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

In winter 2007, Brit Tzedek v'Shalom organized a 22 city tour of the United States by representatives of Combatants For Peace.

Combatants For Peace is a group of Israelis and Palestinians who were formerly involved in the cycle of violence. The Israelis served as combat soldiers in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the Palestinians were engaged in acts of violence in the name of Palestinian liberation. After brandishing weapons for so many years, they decided to put down their guns and fight for peace.

On January 25, 2007, Sulaiman Al-hamri and Elik Elhanan, the Palestinian and Israeli coordinators of Combatants For Peace, spoke at Beth Emet Synagogue in Evanston, Illinois.

"I AM NOT SHOOTING AND I AM NOT CRYING" is a record of that event.

Wow! Bravo!! I commend the two of you for speaking out against war and violence. It seems that it is usually only women who want to prevent war. But since women aren't given a voice in most parts of the world, it doesn't make the kind of impact that men will make if they will stand against violence and begin to work together to create solutions. I'm proud to be living in a generation that is promoting peace instead of war, love instead of hate, tolerance instead of intolerance. I pray that your efforts will succeed and that you will have peace in your countries (and in the world) today, tomorrow, and always.

wow this is so wonderful!! it is such a great example of how the shift can take place in anyone, no matter what their previous state of consciousness and action was, these men have witnessed the atrocities of war, they know how horrific and vicious the cycle is, if they can heal, than the root of the problem itself can be healed!

The Arab and Israeli people are really such beautiful people, with so much in common, it is such a tragedy that they are not embracing their similarities and celebrating their connection to this enchanting Holy Land that they share . I have met many people in my life and there is something very special about the people who originate from this region. They are very smart, interesting, hospitable, witty, charming, and much more. They do have alot of pain that they have been through, which has been inherited, this is why it is so critical to celebrate the good, stop dwelling on the pain, and rejoice in the possibilities that the future can hold for us all! <3
