Almost 1,000 killed as flooding devastates Pakistan

"Flash floods triggered by monsoon rains are causing devastation in Pakistan, with almost a thousand people dead and over 30 million affected. There's a state of emergency in some parts of the country, while the Prime Minister has appealed for international help.

There have been eight spells of torrential rain since the start of the monsoon season in June - twice the usual amount."
