Hi! I am a retired Reading teacher who more than supports homeschooling. My offer would be to assist in any way possible teaching your daughter to read. My theory has always been that if we can read we can learn anything, perhaps, even the truth. If I can give you any tips or steer you in the direction of different resources I would be happy to help. I admire you!

thank you so much for the advice. i'm trying to raise a human being that is true to herself and her own interests and i know from first hand experience how public schooling can make it hard for a child to reach their full potential. i would only hope that she would try to help change things she doesnt see as right. but my main concern is any type of pressure that she does not need or want.
again, thank you for the advice. i can definitely see how making sure there's a "village" can really help…

Peace, Betty Love,
I am now a grandmom, and I spent two of the most wonderful years of my life homeschooling my children in the early 90's. Your outreach for collaboration is so great...the obstacles that ultimately derailed my homeschooling "career" was the tension of having few resources, and having to give attention to keeping a roof, lights, etc. Amazingly, when they returned to public school, I watched them de-learn things that they once knew as a result of homeschooling. So, indeed, if you are not already an integral part of a "village"--you know, the one that it takes to raise a child--get yourself a village, and have a sense how you really want to interface with the larger society. Are you raising future Harvard grads, who make change within "the system," or are you raising new-lifers who put pressure on the system from outside it?
