I am an independent Navajo filmmaker making a movie about my people with a
universal message about the human relationship to Mother Earth. What
began as a "short video story" has blossomed into an independent
feature film with inspiring acting performances by new Navajo actors,
and wonderful technical production values. This movie is a
co-production between my company, REZWOOD ENTERTAINMENT, and
220-PRODUCTIONS.

With your help we can make this feature film a reality.

The Rainbow Boy is an allegorical tale about the consequences of loss of
culture and human devastation of planet earth. The story tells about an
ancient Navajo warrior, Eagle Catcher, who enters a sacred cave despite
an ancient prophecy that warns against entering the cave. Eagle Catcher
is transported to the future, which is our own present, where he sees
and lives the prophetic devastation of modern humans. His arrival
profoundly affects young Ozzie Yazzie, a modern Navajo punk kid
struggling to understand his own identity and culture. Almost dying,
Eagle Catcher is assisted by his Navajo people, who take him back to
the holy cave. Upon returning to his own time, he is given four
prophecies about the dire consequences of human choices and actions for
the future of planet earth.

Introducing Leland Grass as Eagle Catcher, the Rainbow Boy

The Rainbow Boy is groundbreaking in that it was written by a Navajo, is
directed and produced by a Navajo, and has an entirely Navajo cast.
It's also shot almost entirely in the Navajo language, with subtitles.
The development of the story was an iterative process of research and
ongoing dialogue and consultation with my grassroots community, elders,
and traditional practitioners.

In this way it's a unique and original film that is Navajo specific, at the same time the story is universal to all people.

The production values and concept draw heavily on the ancient Navajo
storytelling process and structure inherent in chants, ceremony,
philosophy, and language. To develop the script, this story telling
process was combined with the modern film industry formula, to both
entertain and to inspire.

The Rainbow Boy cast is composed entirely of Navajo people, many of whom had never
acted before. It includes approximately 60 Navajo youth under the age
of 25 as actors, extras, and crew members. The majority of the
principle photography was completed in November of 2009, as was the
editing of the promotional teaser/trailer.

Joshua Sandoval as Ozzie Yazzie

As of March 2010, we have five more days of principle photography to
complete, which includes locations in Gallup, New Mexico and the Navajo
Nation. Funds derived through Kickstarter will pay for the final five
days, and also go towards the final editing and completion of the
original score and soundtrack of The Rainbow Boy.

Our goal is to seek and acquire distribution for the International European
and American audiences. As of this writing we have one American and two
international distribution companies interested in distributing THE
RAINBOW BOY, but first we must finish the film. The movie will be
premiered in the five different agencies of the Navajo Nation, and
Gallup, New Mexico. Other plans include a grassroots tour of Europe,
Native American communities, and film festivals.

In addition to simply a love of film and a desire to tell entertaining
stories, I am highly motivated to contribute to the preservation of
Navajo culture and language. I strongly believe that this project will
create pride in language and culture among Navajo youth, at the same
time it inspires mankind with the universal message of redemption and
love that we all share.

My co-producer, Jenny Pond, our incredible cast and crew, and myself have all donated
our time and effort to this film. We have set a target of $15,000 on
Kickstarter, which will allow us to finish principle photography and
much of the original score. But, $25,000 is needed for final completion
of the soundtrack, and editing. Please join this great Navajo
adventure--your support is greatly appreciated!

Lets make a pebble dropped into a pond ripple into a tsunami across the
world. You choose 7 friends to send to kickstarter and they choose 7
friends and on and on....

Respectfully,

Good day family, we are here finally, it has taken over ten years to have our first album out on the web, with a tribal roar. We will be posting all our news about the band here. We would like to let everyone know about our history. We come from the south west of the USA and our sound was born in Maui, Hawaii. It all started in the jungle when we had a vision in Santa Fe where we met and then had enough of the main land it's politics of dancing. It was during the birth of the underground sound and you had to have a permit to dance, and also gather for freedom of expression. After we met with a few folks from the Islands at a party in Santa Fe, they told us we should go to San Fransisco or Hawaii, there is a group of people who are like minded. So we packed up our little Casio key board and with a few flutes and digree doos, then caught the first flight to Hawaii. It was about three months when we landed out first gig @ Lahaina Coolers A little patio and grill place with awesome food and great tourist trap for world tourism. We were playing while people began to look at us like we were bizarre collection of bugs and boogie. Everyone came up and asked what type of music this was. We told them Native Country House, or Electric Lounge. At this time of course there was no such thing as this kind of music. So we became a tourist attraction. We played there for about a year every Wednesday through Saturday. The one day we met a local who said we should stop by is house and play at his party. At this time we finally met some of the spiritual family of the islands. That is when we began to play up in the mountains in a studio with amazing group of healers and growers of organic gardens. And a band called Lost at Last. Needless to say. Dj Tribe was born.
We finally came back to the mainland and began our journey through Northern California and a place called Black Rock City.Helen invaded the Oculus crew headquarters A barren place in the Nevada Desert population 30,000. That is when we knew we had a place in the sun and then began throwing parties in the South West and California.
Since then we have been busy building our network and web media broadcasting @ gaiapod, a Earth Friendly Media Broadcasting for Movies and all expressions of culture and Eco solutions.
My brother Leonard was severely beaten upon his arrival at the Canaan Federal Penitentiary. When he went into population after
his transfer, some inmates assaulted him.

The severity of his injuries is that he suffered numerous blows to his
head and body, receiving a large bump on his head, possibly a concussion,
and numerous bruises. Also, one of his fingers is swollen and discolored
and he has pain in his chest and ribcage. There was blood everywhere from
his injuries.

We feel that prison authorities at the prompting of the FBI orchestrated
this attack and thus, we are greatly concerned about his safety. It may
be that the attackers, whom Leonard did not even know, were offered
reduced sentences for carrying out this heinous assault. Since Leonard is
up for parole soon, this could be a conspiracy to discredit a model
prisoner.

He was placed in solitary confinement and only given one meal, this is
generally done when you won’t name your attackers; incidentally being only
given one meal seriously jeopardizes his health because of his diabetes.
Prison officials refuse to release any info to the family, but they need
to hear from his supporters to protect his safety, as does President
Obama. His attorneys are trying to get calls into him now.

This attack on Leonard comes on the heels of the FBI’s recent letter,
prompting this attack by FBI supporters as an attempt to discredit Leonard
as a model prisoner. Anyone who has been in the prison system knows well
that if you refuse to name your attackers or file charges against them,
then you lose your status as a victim and/or given points against your
possible parole and labeled as a perpetrator.

It is not uncommon, in fact is quite common for the government to use
Indian against Indian and they still operate under the old adage “it takes
an Indian to catch an Indian”. In 1978, they made an attempt to
assassinate him through another Indian man who was also at Marion prison
with Leonard. But Standing Deer chose to reveal the plot to him instead of
taking his life in exchange FOR A CHANCE AT FREEDOM.

When Standing Deer was released in 2001, he joined the former Leonard
Peltier Defense Committee as a board member. He also began to speak on
Leonard’s behalf until his murder six years ago today. Prior to his
murder, Standing Deer confided with close friends and associates that the
same man who visited him in Marion to assassinate Peltier, had came to
Houston, TX and told him that he had better stay away from Peltier and
anything to do with him.

We are aware that currently, the FBI is actively seeking support for the
continued imprisonment of Leonard Peltier and also seeking support from
Native People. So please be aware, and keep Leonard in your prayers.

The FBI is apparently afraid of the impact we are having. If they will set
him up to blemish his record just before a parole hearing, what will they
do when it looks like his freedom will become a reality? We need to make
sure that nothing happens to him again!

Please write the President, send it priority or registered mail. Email to
Change.gov or email President Obama. Call your congressional
representatives and write letters, not email, to them. Do what you can to
get the word out to insure that Leonard is receiving adequate medical
attention for his injuries.

I am asking you, supporters of Leonard and advocates of justice at this
time to help. I don’t know what else to do. Please Help!

Thank you
President Obama should pardon or commute the sentence of Leonard Peltier as a gesture toward improving relations with Native Americans and all the diverse groups that now populate this country, in preparation for a resolution of longstanding conflicts that hinder the realization of our collective potential.

Leonard Peltier was convicted of being a participant in an insurrection in which two FBI agents were killed in 1975. He has been a model prisoner and contributed to humanitarian efforts during his time in prison, and he has openly expressed remorse and sadness over the deaths of the two men.

Leonard Peltier is widely recognized in the human rights community for his good deeds and in turn has won several human rights awards including the North Star Frederick Douglas Award; Federation of Labour (Ontario, Canada) Humanist of the Year Award; Human Rights Commission of Spain International Human Rights Prize; and 2004 Silver Arrow Award for Lifetime Achievement. In 2004, 2006, 2007, and again in 2008, Mr. Peltier also was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Mr. Peltier is now over 60 years of age — a great-grandfather — and suffers from partial blindness, diabetes, a heart condition, and high blood pressure.

Rather than presenting a threat to the public, Mr. Peltier’s release would help to heal a wound that has long impeded better relations between the federal government and American Indians.

Mr. Peltier deserves to be reunited with his family and allowed to live the remaining years of his life in peace.

Nasa has successfully tested a communications system for use in space that it calls an “interplanetary internet”.

The communications system was devised by Turing award winner and Google evangelist Vint Cerf, and has been in development for the past 10 years in association with Nasa scientists.

In its first test the system successfully carried data between the Earth and a satellite 20 million miles away.

“This is the first step in creating a totally new space communications capability, an interplanetary internet,” said Adrian Hooke, team lead and manager of space-networking architecture, technology and standards at Nasa headquarters in Washington.

The system uses disruption-tolerant networking (DTN) to overcome the difficulties of transporting data across huge distances, which is similar to the internet’s methodology in that it uses distributed nodes to pass on data.

Unlike TCP/IP, however, which assumes a constant connection at either end of the communications channel, DTN nodes store the data if the recipient cannot be reached, or pass it on to a node which can.

“There are 10 nodes on this early interplanetary network,” said Scott Burleigh of Nasa’s Jet Propulsion Lab (JPL), lead software engineer for the demonstrations.

“One is the Epoxi spacecraft itself and the other nine, which are on the ground at JPL, simulate Mars landers, orbiters and ground mission-operations centres.”

The tests are now being rolled out to the International Space Station and will be used in future missions to co-ordinate communications between probes around other planets.CALL FOR ACTIONtag:mypeace.tv,2008-11-18:1992146:BlogPost:130012008-11-18T05:36:01.000ZElectricbravehttps://mypeace.tv/profile/Electricbrave

NAMA Committed to Assisting Throughout Winter Season

The Native American Music Association, N.A.M.A., http://www.tanasijournal.com/main/images/stories/permission_all/native-american-music-awards.png
a non profit 501(c)(3), (Fed Id# 13-4032761) is heeding the requests of NAMAPAAH Radio and is joining in the effort to provide emergency clothing, and heating/utility assistance for the Elders, children, the disabled, and the sick on the Rosebud & Pine Ridge Reservations in South Dakota throughout this Winter season. N.A.M.A. is calling upon its international membership to make a donation in which ALL funds will go directly to providing clothing to local churches and schools on the Reservations as well as emergency heating/utility assistance determined by the application process of the Link Center Foundation’s primary program. N.A.M.A. is also building a task force consisting of Winners, Nominees & Volunteer Staff in South Dakota to assist in filing emergency applications for those most in need of heat and Winter clothing on the Pine Ridge and Rosebud Reservations.

The current goal is to raise over $15,000.00 in donations which will provide all current application approved households with several weeks of emergency propane and winter clothing. Fuel vendors will be paid directly. A list of fuel vendors is available for those interested. Additionally, an open line of communication is available with Propane companies in the event they refer an emergency recipient, i.g, , Lakota Plains Propane Co. on Pine Ridge. Assistance is provided in the order applications are received or in cases of dire or life-threatening emergencies which then take precedence. Propane is currently running about $2.20 to $2.50 per gallon. Fuel costs have risen about 33% in the last year. The various propane companies are requiring $120-$150 minimum purchase per delivery.

Sadly, some of the elders in the back country (many of whom take care of their grandchildren) don’t get into towns or local CAP offices and often miss out on obtaining emergency applications or even knowing about them. We can be of help to them!!! And most importantly, we want to be assured that the assistance goes directly to those most in need.

While need is everywhere, particularly at this time of crisis, there are no greater needs than those of the Elders, children, disabled, and ill on these reservations. They have the lowest income, the least ability to gain funds, and often suffer from such serious health issues as to be severely impaired by the cold. Even worse, for the most part, they are the least able to travel to get assistance or to get someplace that might be warm. Moreover, according to the last Federal census, about 60% of the Elders on Pine Ridge have sole custody of their grandchildren or great-grandchildren so there are often small children in the home, also at risk.
http://www.legendsofamerica.com/photos-nativeamerican/PineRidgeReservation.jpg
We are depending on YOU, the individual donor, to help us help these families in crisis. DONATE NOW through N.A.M.A.’s website.

FACTS: Average income on the Oglala Lakota Sioux Pine Ridge Reservation is about $3,500.00 per YEAR. Jobs are extremely scarce; unemployment hovers around 85% on this 11,000-square-mile reservation which houses about 40,000 people. The other Lakota Reservations face similar economic conditions.

Death by hypothermia is always a concern on the reservations. Each winter (October – March), temperatures drop well below 0*F. Many families must choose between food and heat. In some cases, they have neither.

Federal LHEAP and Tribal Assistance Programs offer each low-income family approximately $300 per year. With the current rate of propane at $2.20 per gallon, this provides only 136 gallons – about enough fuel for 2 to 4 weeks (depending on the harsh weather).

For more information on the LCF Elder heating/utility application process, feel free to visit the Link Center Foundation, www.linkcenterfoundation.org.

A list of ministries, churches and schools to directly send clothing, blankets, boots, etc is available by request via email; Nammys@aol.com

Let’s help ASAP. It is just unacceptable to have third world country conditions in the middle of America! We need to help them not only during this crisis, but throughout the entire Winter Season.
NOTE FROM NAMA’S FOUNDER

The Native American Music Awards & Association would like to assist those on Pine Ridge & Rosebud with their winter crisis.

The inspiration for our entire organization, was given to us by the youth on Rosebud and Pine Ridge over 12 years ago. We are well aware of the difficulties and conditions facing those on Pine Ridge and Rosebud and it would be a wonderful effort for myself and our organization to come full circle and assist those there that are most in need. Not only in this crisis - but on a continuing basis.

It just amazes me at times that the mainstream or others throughout the world do not realize we still have third world country conditions existing in the middle of America. Without Rosebud or Pine Ridge, there would be no NAMMYS today, and it is imperative that we make others aware of the hardships the Lakota face.

We believe we have secured the best possible methods to offer the most direct assistance and reach those most in need, whether its money, diapers, toys, food, water, etc.

We look forward to your assistance. Visit our website www.nativeamericanmusicawards.com the Special Programs Page to make your donation now.
