“Since October 7th, Israeli politicians, journalists and commentators have been doubling down on their claim to the Israeli public that “there are no innocents in Gaza.” They willingly ignore the fact that Gaza’s population stands at 2.3 million, with 40% of them under age 15.

"There are no innocents in Gaza” is not only an inhumane claim, but a dangerous one. The only way to interpret it is as a blank check to justify the extensive killing of the men, women, and children in Gaza whose only crime is living on the other side of the fence.

“They voted for Hamas,” many keep saying in Israel and around the world, referring to elections that took place 18 years ago. Most of those living in Gaza today weren’t even born then, including the over 6,000 children estimated to have been killed in the past weeks.

There’s no way to measure how this rhetoric affects IDF operations, but the numbers are horrifying. Israeli officials claim 5,000 of over 16,000 Palestinians killed so far were Hamas operatives. Even if true, the number of civilian deaths per every Hamas operative is staggering.

Former IDF soldiers who took part in the fighting in Gaza during operation “Protective Edge” in 2014 testified themselves on encountering innocent civilians who remained in the areas the IDF deemed as “sterile” following its warnings to evacuate.

The October 7th massacre was unthinkable. Over 1,200 dead, 240 hostages. Almost every Israeli knows someone who was kidnapped, murdered, raped. Yet despicable claims like “there are no innocents in Gaza” also knowingly endanger the 138 Israelis still held hostage in Gaza.

Returned hostages Emily Hand and Hila Shoshani - both children - were rushed from house to house under the *Israeli* bombardment. We endangered and continue to endanger the lives of the hostages, just like the lives of countless Palestinian children, women, elderly.

Gazans are trapped between Hamas, which operates from within the civilian population and infrastructure, and the daily reality of Israeli occupation and siege that turned Gaza into an open-air prison. This isn’t a reason to ignore or be indifferent to their fate. On the contrary.

Those saying “there are no innocents in Gaza” are enabling, consciously or not, criminal plans of ethnic cleansing by way of forcible-transfer, as well as extensive killing of innocent civilians. Words that policy makers speak become policy. As Israelis, we must not stay silent.”

Life experiences tend to take us in a roller coaster ride of emotions and it can be very easy to lose ourselves in the midst of all the emotional battles. However, I have found it very useful and nurturing to ground myself by connecting with nature.

We can learn so much from nature by just sitting in a park, observing and breathing the fresh air that it has to offer. It is extremely powerful to sit under a tree with your back reclined on its trunk while caressing the grass below your feet and hands; closing your eyes and allowing the wisdom and purity of nature to envelop your being. Connecting with trees is of utmost importance because they radiate strength, beauty, life, inner power and grounding energy.

Trees carry wisdom within, they have lived many years through different climate and environmental changes and yet they remain strong, mighty and standing tall ready to show us how we can become as grounded as they are no matter how tough the circumstances around us become.

Our well being is deeply connected with all that exists and it is a magnificent gift to be able to sit back and allow nature to embrace us with its beauty. I recommend you take time from your busy schedules to sit at a park at least once a week and really let go of your thoughts, just feeling, absorbing and listening to the amazing beauty that is contained all around you; allowing the breeze of the wind caress your skin as the magnificent symphony of the birds singing transports you to a higher state of consciousness.

I guarantee you that once you connect with nature in this way you will begin to feel a sense of belonging, peace and bliss that can only be given by becoming one with all that exists.18th Annual Global Peace Film Festival Goes Virtualtag:mypeace.tv,2020-09-13:1992146:BlogPost:3362582020-09-13T20:11:45.000ZGlobal Peace Film Festivalhttps://mypeace.tv/profile/GlobalPeaceFilmFestival

Amid pandemic, GPFF plans to deliver a robust program with online feature film screenings, virtual panel discussions and art exhibits

ORLANDO, Fla. — As the prospects for a traditional film festival grew dim earlier this year when the COVID-19 pandemic took a worldwide hold, organizers of the 18th annual Global Peace Film Festival (GPFF) were quick to adapt for the safety of its audiences and special guests. In this very different, challenging and tragic year, GPFF has pivoted to deliver a robust program that includes thought-provoking films and art exhibits for people all over the world to enjoy from the comfort and safety of their homes, as well as a limited number of in-person events at which people can be safely distanced.

In years past, this unique festival has brought filmmakers and filmgoers from all walks of life to Central Florida, inspiring them to take action in their daily lives and to leave the world a more peaceful place than they found it. GPFF now aims to continue this tradition virtually through online feature film screenings, virtual panel discussions and art exhibits.

Starting on the International Day of Peace, Monday, Sept. 21, 2020, a selection of more than 20 feature films will be available for screening for just $5 each. These films highlight themes such as civil rights, environmental justice, ethics, human rights, immigration, LGBTQ+, music, social justice, voting, wellness and wildlife. For an even greater value, a White Dove pass, which provides access to all films, is available for $100, a savings of $15.

With the virtual festival opening on the International Day of Peace, a film that speaks to the importance of that day is The Third Harmony (USA, 2020, 44 minutes). It aims to bring the ancient art of nonviolence into the mainstream of public consciousness by telling the story of the greatest overlooked resource in human experience.

In this election year, the program includes Birddog Nation (USA, 2020, 60 minutes), timely for the U.S. election, which follows the fearless activists who helped flip the House in 2018, and Swing State Florida (USA, 2019, 90 minutes) mixes intimate portraits with expert commentary to showcase the struggles replicated in swing stages across the country and give a vision of Florida in the run-up to the 2020 election.

The universal language of music is explored in Keyboard Fantasies: The Beverly Glenn-Copeland Story (UK, 2019, 63 minutes), where audiences will see the protagonist commit his life and music to screen for the first time while Mantra: Sounds into Silence (Spain, 2017, 85 minutes) shows how effective harmonious sounds can be in our noisy world of nonstop communication. 16 Bars (USA, 2018, 94 minutes) offers a rare glimpse at the human stories and songs that are locked away in our nation’s jails and prisons, taking the viewer into a Virginia jail’s makeshift recording studio, where four men collaborate on an album with Grammy-winning recording artist Todd “Speech” Thomas, of the hip hop group Arrested Development.

Environmental films include Our Gorongosa (Mozambique, 2019, 60 minutes) that introduces the audience to a young African woman elephant ecologist who shares the inspiring story of how Gorongosa is becoming a new model for wildlife conservation and community development, and Sockeye Salmon. Red Fish (Russian Federation, 2020, 51 minutes) follows the wild sockeye salmon as it returns to its breeding grounds to complete its life cycle where the biggest threats are not the hungry bears lining the streams.

A trio of films about Costa Rica features Lifting the Green Screen (USA, 2020, 90 minutes) is an ethnographic documentary that showcases the everyday complexity of conservation in practice in Costa Rica’s biodiversity hotspot, the Osa Peninsula, Sweet Home Monteverde (USA, 2020, 57 minutes) traces the spiritual and geographical journey of an intrepid group of Americans who leave the U.S. in 1950 in search of a life of pacifism, and Peace With Nature in Costa Rica (USA, 2019, 50 minutes) about how Costa Rica restored its forests while providing employment and financial security for its people.

Films about activism include A Concerned Citizen: Civics in Action (USA, 2019, 40 minutes) in which Dr. Riki Ott, renowned marine toxicologist, creates a civics course to help young activists become effective and Waging Change (USA, 2019, 61 minutes) that shines a spotlight on the challenges faced by restaurant workers trying to feed themselves and their families off tips. Featuring Saru Jayaraman, Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the film reveals American workers’ struggles hidden in plain sight. The Vow from Hiroshima (USA, 2019, 82 minutes) is an intimate portrait of a passionate 85-year-old survivor of the atomic bomb in Hiroshima. Setsuko Thurlow was miraculously pulled out of a fiery building but was unable to save her 27 classmates who were burned to death after the blast. She made to her friends: that no one should ever again experience the same horrible fate.

The Great Disconnect (Cayman Islands, 2019, 87 minutes) follows wellness expert Tamer Soliman who posits that we as a society, are isolating ourselves from one another, and because of this, facing a health crisis that affects all ages, genders, races and cultures.

Stories from around the world include Comrade Dov (Israel, 2019, 75 minutes) that examines the open wounds of contemporary Israeli society through a surprising and thought-provoking portrait of a unique politician.

The Reformist (Denmark, 2019, 90 minutes) tells the story of Sherin Khankan, who wants to open one of the first mosques in Europe led by female imams. And scientists and humanitarians combine rigorous research and compassion to heal young Syrian refugees scarred by the devastating stress of war in Terror and Hope: The Silence of Resilience (USA, 2019, 39 minutes).

Day One (USA, 2019, 81 minutes) follows a group of teenage refugees from war-torn countries who are enrolled at a unique public school for refugees and immigrants in St. Louis, where they are guided through an inspirational program of education, healing and trauma intervention by devoted educators, some of whom have chosen to relocate to the inner city to support their students.

Elder Voices (USA, 2019, 49 minutes) tells the stories of Japanese Americans, European Jews and conscientious objectors who came of age during the perilous times of the Great Depression and World War II. Residing together in a retirement community, they continue to live and share the values and principles grounded in the lessons that were forged in their youth, confronted with anti-Semitism, internment camps and bigotry.

Liberation Heroes: The Last Eyewitnesses (USA, 2019, 41 minutes), drawing parallels between the past and present, heroic World War II veterans vividly share their liberation journeys. These powerful eyewitness accounts from Steven Spielberg's USC Shoah Foundation Visual History Archive®, share a cautionary tale and compelling reminder of what can happen when insidious hatred remains unchecked.

Many of the films will be available worldwide throughout the festival, which runs through Oct. 4 while a few films are only available in the U.S. and North America, and two are available only in Florida.

BOMBSHELL: Masquerading Warfare, an exhibit to be presented at CityArts, at 39 S. Magnolia Ave. in downtown Orlando, visually surprises viewers with its rebellious, unconventional and elegant creations of gas masks. Avant-garde couture designer Ben Van Beusekom disrupts our perceptions and evokes beauty where once there was horror. In a world filled with chaos, his love of fantasy transforms these apocalyptic protectors into elaborate headpieces designed to titillate the senses. The exhibit highlights these glamorized saviors and recognizes the importance they have played throughout history by adorning them with texture, vivid color and dazzling bejeweling. The exhibit runs from Sept. 17 through Oct. 11. CityArts is open Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Learn more about the exhibit at PeaceFilmFest.org/cityarts.

About the Global Peace Film Festival

The Global Peace Film Festival, established in 2003, uses the power of the moving image to further the cause of peace on earth. From the outset, the GPFF envisioned “peace” not as the absence of conflict but as a framework for channeling, processing and resolving conflict through respectful and non-violent means. People of good faith have real differences that deserve to be discussed, debated and contested. GPFF works to connect expression – artistic, political, social and personal – to positive, respectful vehicles for action and change. The festival program is carefully curated to create a place for open dialogue, using the films as catalysts for change.

There is this saying that peace is found within us and it is in my nature to stay away from passing on any limiting saying or belief, but I think we can expand on ideas and make them grow and support us on our ever evolving path through life.

So, I'll add to this notion that peace can be found within

moments

conversations

creations

inspired ideas

images in our mind

laughter and hugs

paying it forward

syncronicity

a heart overflowing

tears of joy

gratitude

one red paperclip or in this case one white stone

Out of our gratitude the list can grow and we can get caught up in the list and sidetracked. Peace is simplicity.

Peace exists so significantly within our life experience already.

It is a controversial concept that does not hold well for the victims in war or abuse. There is no justification for either. But there is peace in the outpouring of love for those people. There is peace in knowing that you only want to do the best for those people in your circle, and the chance encounters with people you meet every day.

If I think like that, I know others do.

But what of those living without food and clean water? That's a fair question too, they aren't experiencing any peace.

But peace still exists in the human spirit.

There are people everywhere taking inspired actions for others who are not in their circle, who they will never meet ordinarily on the street, founding projects to pay that peace forward. The peace they have of arriving home at the end of a long day with food to cook , clean water to drink and bathe in and to wash their clothes and dishes is shared. Peace exists in them to be able to share it. Peace is a shared experience. It is caring for another in a way that empowers them to live an amazing life. The thank you received is in the living of that amazing life with peace in the availability of everyday necessities.

Is it not beautiful that a person wants to do something for another that they know will never return the favor? And that there is more than one person, more than a handful, more than a seminar full, more than a national fundraiser full, more than a bestselling book full, or a TED talk full streaming to its huge audience. There's Facebook likes full, millions of them. That's a lot of 'full's. When you experience peace you are full and you want to share it. There are musicans in recording studios creating songs that come from their heart that when you hear it your spine tingles and your eyes well with tears.

That IS the human spirit.

There is peace in the challenges if you see them as opportunities. There is peace in rejections if you know that each rejection is a sign that that thing is not right for you and the best is yet to come. There is peace in delays if you're waiting in a line, because you honor that person behind the counter that is trying their absolute best to keep up with the demand.

There is peace to be found when someone is trying to bring you down on purpose, because you know that they don't know there is peace and they are hurting themselves more than you living within a violent inner world. How horrible would it be to not feel touched by the human spirit, not have that desire to inspire and uplift others in your circle? You are able to choose to walk away and still want peace for them.

There is peace found everyday, everywhere it's just that in some places there are gaps. Where people have forgotten. We just need to fill in the gaps until there is none. One space at a time. Or many spaces by many people working together.

The stone picked up by my son and hidden in a closed fist accompanied by a big smile reminded me of my peace.

I heard a story recently about a jazz pianist’s new arrangement of the jazz standard “Misty.”

This new arrangement would start in E flat in a nice slow swing, but at the bridge it switches to the key of F. Then, coming out of the bridge, it changes rhythm to a Bossa Nova while modulating to the key of F#. But then, after the piano solo, it changes key again to G with a faster swing tempo, before dropping down to the key of D for the final verse.

After explaining these new changes to the band, the jazz singer looked stupefied and said, "I don't know if I can remember all that!”

To which the pianist replied, “Why not? You did it last night!”

I’m pretty sure this is just a joke, but as a musician myself, I can speak from experience that this does point to the truth. General George Patton once said that “Successful generals make plans to fit circumstances, but do not try to create circumstances to fit plans,” and I would suggest that sometimes musicians have to cut their losses and make the best use of their talents given the circumstances.

And this is true for all of us. Sometimes we find ourselves in situations where we have to make the best of it, regardless of the cards that we’ve been dealt. We can choose to listen to cringing dissonance, or we can take stock of our circumstances, and with awareness make calculated changes to sing in harmony with one another, making the best of a challenging situation.

3 Practices to Enhance Resilience
Resilient people take whatever life gives them as an opportunity, regardless of the state of the world, their career, their relationships, their bank account, and their health. Perhaps, if nothing else, it's an opportunity to practice responding well with character.

One of the most common questions I’m asked is how I’m able to stay so positive when the world has so much to be negative about. How can I possibly embrace even negative circumstances and use them as a force for good? To be clear, I haven’t always been this way. I’ve had my share of disappointments, heartbreaks, and tragedies. I’ve battled grief, depression, addiction, and thoughts of suicide. But I worked through it. Even though there were times that I wanted to give up, I pushed through. And by not giving up I discovered ways to put the worst of times into perspective, to make bad days not turn into bad weeks, and make the good times linger just a little bit longer.

There’s no single simple formula for this, as every situation is different, but there are three common factors that researchers have identified for helping people enhance resilience in midst of challenges: 1) Mindset, 2) Purpose, and 3) Relationships. Here are some suggestions for incorporating these factors into your life:

1. Reframe Your Circumstances

There’s a beautiful example that I recently found in Reader’s Digest Asia about a cellist who embraced a handicap to improve her playing. One day the musician developed ringing in one ear and there was concern that it might become overwhelming and prevent her from making music any longer. But when asked about it she simply shook her head and said: “It doesn’t bother me at all. The ringing sound is in the key of B flat, so I use it to tune my cello a half step lower.”

This musician is able to take a situation that’s outside of her control and work with it instead of against it. Instead of framing it as a problem, she used it as an opportunity to improve her playing.
One of my favorite secrets for staying positive is to give my hands something to do that engages my mind and my heart, and which can also bring joy to others. This one positivity hack has changed my life in profound ways, giving me opportunities that I never would have dreamed of, especially through my work as an entertainer both in music and in magic.

Most recently I started learning a new skill, playing what I believe to be the happiest of all the instruments: the ukulele! The sound of it is fun. The look of it is fun. Even its names is fun. And playing it these past two months has brought me much joy. Playing music is a powerful practice that can bring joy to yourself while simultaneously bringing joy to others, which brings us to the final practice for enhancing resilience.

3.
I’m encouraged by the positive news stories we hear coming in from Italy, where quarantined residents are singing from their balconies and rooftops, joining together in song, reminding us that as separate and isolated as we may sometimes feel, we are all united by our humanity.

Just take a quick look at social media from this past week and you’ll see countless musicians sharing their music from quarantine (one of my favorites is from Bono) a positive reminder that “we are waves of the same sea, leaves from the same tree, flowers from the same garden." And though “we may have different mountains and rivers, we still share the same sun, same moon and the same sky."

Reflection

Yesterday was a turning point in our world's history when tens of thousands of people came together online- via Google hangout and on youtube to share their questions and ideas about how to create a stress-free violence free community. Topics ranged from children and bullying to school shootings to corrupt governments and disenfranchised populations and economic development. Peace ambassadors came together to discuss their ideas.

The effectiveness of such campaigns can only be sustained when we, at the grassroots, come together and form local groups to identify what our local issues are that need addressing and then work towards solutions. I invite all of us here, on these blogs and on this website who already are peace ambassadors to get connected further with our neighbors and local communities and see how we can reverse the trend of violent actions that shake our communities and cause unwarranted pain.

As part of this initiative, I would like to invite US residents to join any of the many free, guided meditation groups we have at various centers across the country here. Let us all join our hearts and minds to counter the seemingly powerful forces of violence.
Real Success Is About Your Work - Not Youtag:mypeace.tv,2012-12-27:1992146:BlogPost:2469402012-12-27T00:24:17.000ZDr Madan Katariahttps://mypeace.tv/profile/DrMadanKataria

In September 2008 I went to visit my wife’s brother Gope in Toronto. On my arrival, he wanted to introduce me to several of his friends so he organized a dinner

party. As we talked and got around, most of his friends discovered that I was the founder of Laughter Yoga. Highly amused, they were eager to get more details about the concept. During our conversations that evening, one guest mentioned that Laughter Clubs has been featured in several Hindi movies and was wondering if the film producers had consulted me before featuring the Laughter Yoga sessions. He was quite upset when I said that I had not been consulted. “At least they should have mentioned your name”, he insisted.

Feeling grateful for her genuine concern, I responded, “It is fine with me if they do not mention my name. The whole concept is to create more awareness, and if the film with its immense popularity has become a medium for spreading the message of laughter in India, as well as to Indians abroad, I am really happy. It’s not about my name. I tried to explain that the laughter movement is a divine movement – it is not just “Dr. Kataria’s Movement” and that a much higher force was working

behind the concept. “It is some kind of spiritual power without which I would not have been able to spread the idea worldwide,” I said.

I cited another incident when in 2005, I had gone to Melbourne, to present a corporate seminar for the Australian Institute of Management, and conduct several Laughter Yoga seminars. My host Merv Neal had become a Laughter Yoga activist following his recovery from a life- threatening illness that had shut down his bone marrow and immune system. He strongly believed that laughter was the catalyst that had turned his condition around.

On our way from the airport to his home, I asked what his profession was and he said he assisted people in writing business plans. When he asked if I had one, I very sheepishly admitted that I had none and nor was I interested is such a thing. I told him Laughter Yoga had become a global phenomenon without any marketing and publicity on my part and that laughter is not my business, it is my social mission.

Although surprised with my statement, Merv continued to push for a business plan, convinced I needed one and lots of money in order to spread the laughter movement much faster. I had never thought about laughter needing a business plan before listening to him, but somehow he swayed me. I asked him if he would help me write one, so for the next two days, together, we developed a great strategy for advancing the Laughter Yoga movement.

Merv introduced me to about 250-300 people at the seminar, then asked, “How many of you have heard about Laughter Clubs?” More than 200 raised their hands. Next question, “How many of you have heard of Dr. Madan Kataria? Maybe 25 responded affirmatively to that question! Merv’s spontaneous response was, “Ladies and gentlemen, here is man who is known more for his work than for himself!”

Surprisingly, I had no bad feelings about not being known, but instead, a wave of enlightenment flooded my heart. Suddenly, I knew that after I die, the Laughter Yoga movement would continue to live, because the movement had grown not because of my personal charisma, but

because of the positive benefits derived by those who had experienced the healing power of laughter.

I had always felt that the Laughter Yoga movement had spread like wildfire to so many countries in a very short period of time without advertising and marketing because an undeniable Higher Force was guiding and promoting it. I knew it was not about me, but about the work, the people and the benefits it provided, but that day drove the point home. Yes, laughter has its own wisdom, its own intelligence – I was merely the vessel.
Words of Hope and Peacetag:mypeace.tv,2012-11-15:1992146:BlogPost:2428892012-11-15T22:08:34.000ZDavid Burnetthttps://mypeace.tv/profile/DavidBurnett

The following quotes were all posts I came across on Facebook. They were all posted as rockets and bombs were falling in Palestine and Israel. I put them all together so that all who want peace will know YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

"Dear friends, I dont know how to start to write what i want to say. maybe the first words should be: I am human, I am Israeli. In that order. When Rockets and bombs are in Gaza, and in Israel- arriving to tel aviv as well for the first time from Gaza, people dont have time to think or feel love, they just want to survive..but maybe in this moment, we can stop for one minute to understand that this feeling of survivng, is the same feeling that our "enemy" feels, the same feeling in the other side. And offcourse you say to yourselves:"what can i do? i cant change it.." but you can. you can with starting this process with yourselves, so in the right time in the future with this power we will change the outside as well. nobody has more power then you, nobody. it just we are not using it- we are not united- now it is the time to unite- first in your mind. understand that in the other side -there are people like you, with children..if you give hate a place in your hearts now- you are letting war to win you. so no matter what happens, and how much its bad, remember allways: we are all one, we are all in the same problem, we must help eachother and love. when this is over, we will make sure it will not happen again- change your mind. its now or never. Love you all, Israelis&Palestinians."Noa,Israel Loves Palestine ♥

"This is not my war. It does not happen in my name. As palestinians and israelis we stand together to show the world, that there is still another reality. Now, more than ever we reach out to each other and stand together as one.We are all one.And we speak out for peace."Joujou, Palestine

"As the rockets are falling in Israel and bombs are hitting Gaza, I find myself being lost for words. It is a horrible feeling to watch this happen and being not able to do something... We are so worried about all our friends from both sides. Wherever you are now - we hope you are safe. Be careful, stay at home, don't go out and keep yourself as safe as possible please. All our thoughts are with you right now. Today, more than ever we must unite together for peace! My heart is with you." - Joujou

"I wanted to share with you my dilema, ...it s really not easy to say: not my war, when rockets ar falling on the south of israel , killing people, really not easy for me to stand for peace when people, my people are dying.

In the miidle of writing this word the sirens strats shouting ...first time in tel aviv. we were on the street going to meet imams coming from france....find ourselves running

on the streets. we end up in a gymnasium with arabs kids from yaffo waiting for the sirens to stop. we heard the rockes fall....five minute ago

more than five minute ago ....it s not easy to ask for peace, not easy to see the right and wrong...but still....even after running with michal on the street for our lives...still, not my war. still we stand with you, and say ..stop the madness, it lead to nothing....not my war" Ronny Edry, Telaviv Jaffa

"It seems we are on the brink of war. :( Please pray for protection upon the innocent on both sides." -Adena Levine, Jerusalem

"We have been thru the bombs before, but this time is different because here in this small space on facebook, there are real people reaching out to each other, worrying, loving, supporting. And that gives me hope." -Rebecca Friedman

"We are wearing BLACK today, but inside we are allways white- clean white like the color of the Dove- peace among you Palestinians, our cry is for you and for us in the same breath, this is not our war, this is not your war, we love you, stay strong, allways believe in the one and only truth, the one and only god: love and peace- we will get it at the end. we ♥ you" -Israel-loves-Palestine

"Our thoughts are with you, we hold your hand today to show the world, that we are one family - Israelis and Palestinians - who love to live in peace. We are one and this is not our war.We love you back!♥" -Palestine-loves-Israel

"All the love pages are wearing black now. I just couldn't make myself change to black. For me, black means the end, it means there is no hope for us anymore. I desided to change it to blue. Blue means tears, it means sadness, but it also means hope. I refuse to give up on hope. We have to believe that the things can be done differently, and they will be done differently one day. We just can't give up on peace. As many people said, in times like this it is very easy to give up on everything, to go with the stream, and to assume that our govrnment knows what it's doing. But precisely times like this are our real test. No matter what doubts do we have sometimes, our way IS the right way. Because the other way includes dead civilians, even if we don't mean to kill them, even if we apologize afterwards. NO WAR CAN EVER BE THE RIGHT CHOICE! We just have to find another way, and looking on all the peace pages that we have here, makes me feel really optimistic. We're on the right way, we just have to stick with it.I'm sending a big hug to all the residents of the south and T.A.area, to all the people in Gaza, and all the people of Syria. We love you, and we will find the way!" - Israel Loves Syria
The Updated World Flagtag:mypeace.tv,2012-11-12:1992146:BlogPost:2421372012-11-12T21:29:35.000ZJohn M.
If Martin Luther King Jr. was here today, what would he say to all who support the Occupy Wall Street movement? What specific goal would he want us to focus on the most? Among the many ideas for economic justice and equality, there is one specific solution that MLK strongly supported. Referred to in different ways, this idea has often been called the Basic Income Guarantee (BIG), an income unconditionally given to all on an individual basis, ensuring that every citizen has access to life's basic needs. Today's extreme form of capitalism requires that most people have to work so that they can merely survive. Such a system means that more and more jobs have to be created, even if those jobs have a negative impact on humanity and our planet as a whole. Furthermore, with the advancement of technology, more and more jobs are becoming automated, thus decreasing the amount of work available for people. Considering the urgency of this moment, with so many people living in poverty, I am convinced that MLK would encourage us all to speedily pursue the creation of the Basic Income Guarantee. Here are some of his quotes supporting this idea:

"The solution to poverty is to abolish it directly by a now widely discussed measure: the guaranteed income. "

"Communism forgets that life is individual. Capitalism forgets that life is social, and the kingdom of brotherhood is found neither in the thesis of communism nor the antithesis of capitalism, but in a higher synthesis. It is found in a higher synthesis that combines the truths of both."

"We are likely to find that the problems of housing and education, instead of preceding the elimination of poverty, will themselves be affected if poverty is first abolished."

"A host of positive psychological changes inevitably will result from widespread economic security. The dignity of the individual will flourish when the decisions concerning his life are in his hands, when he has the assurance that his income is stable and certain, and when he knows that he has the means to seek self-improvement."

"There is nothing except shortsightedness to prevent us from guaranteeing an annual minimum – and livable – income for every American family. The time has come for us to civilize ourselves by the total, direct and immediate abolition of poverty."

"We have moved into an era where we are called upon to raise certain basic questions about the whole society. We are still called upon to give aid to the beggar who finds himself in misery and agony on life's highway. But one day, we must ask the question of whether an edifice which produces beggars must not be restructured and refurbished."

"Why should there be hunger and deprivation in any land, in any city, at any table, when man has the resources and the scientific know-how to provide all mankind with the basic necessities of life?"

Indeed, if MLK was here today, he would inspire us to seek an inner evolution of our awareness, so that we are more able to compassionately create an outer evolution; a world free of poverty and other destructive cycles. He would say again:

"An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity.”

"Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly."

"We may have all come on different ships, but we're in the same boat now."

I am deeply thankful for the wisdom he shared, and his determination to help our human family reach it's greatest potential. If you resonate with the message here, please share it far and wide.

It began again 2 days ago. I am home for a week off of my tour schedule and I want to make a difference at home like I feel I do on the road. Upon each return to my husband and our home my question is: "How can I make our life better this trip?" This time the answer was loud and clear, "Let Go, Release, Purge!" I knew this meant old stuff, clutter, meaningless bits of crap laying around etc. But I had an inkling it meant more than that. I get to clear out old ideas as well. I get to release old feelings! Well letting go of stuff certainly churned the pit of loss in my gut. Both my husband and I felt immediately overwhelmed. Both of us felt angry! When we talked about it we concluded that we were grieving! We get to grieve the loss of the old stuff AND our attachment to it all! We get to get angry at ourselves for believing in lack to the extent that we would buy all that stuff to begin with! ...at a deeply discounted price of course! We get to grieve our pride in finding those great deals on stuff we never really needed, stuff we bought to fill a void-a longing, stuff that now was taking over our lives! We get to grieve all of this because it is NOT even who we are anymore, but because it was who we used to be, we get to grieve.

While one room at a time begins to breathe new life in it's emptiness one toxic emotion at a time is also released in the form of tears. I believe this is what we as a nation are doing right now. We are letting go of all that no longer serves our country. And as "old dreams die hard" we are no longer able to identify with our past definition of who we are. We are NOT our labels-democrat, republican, liberal, conservative. We are NOT our race-we are more and more blended all the time! We are NOT our religion-even what we believe is being tested and asked to change! We are NOT us or them! We are NOT our stories! So who am I without my label?? Who am I without my story? Who am I without my past?? When we release all we are NOT, we come closer to who we are. We are human beings connected to one another through Spirit. We can choose who we are at any given moment. We get to make it up as we go along! By deciding again and again can decide to work together for the greater good of all. We can chose cooperation instead of competition. We will choose compassion instead of blame. We will heal. When we ask "How best can I serve today?" and act upon the answer received naturally all of our concerns and challenges will be met on a higher playing field than if we ask "How can I make $$?" And of course the more "In Service" I am. the more abundance I receive and the more peace is created from the inside out! That IS where it starts after all!

Happy International Peace Day! Let's all release what no longer serves us to make way for the new, bright and shining promise of tomorrow!
~so lovely living globally ~tag:mypeace.tv,2011-07-28:1992146:BlogPost:1923442011-07-28T15:37:35.000ZMaryanne Patlakhttps://mypeace.tv/profile/MaryannePatlak

And how do we set constructive examples for the world's children? Although I feel that catching Osama (rather than killing him) would have set a better example, I do not know if it was logistically possible. With that being said, if President Obama announced the death of Osama with a different tone, if he didn't boast, if he expressed an intention to help break this vicious cycle and catch violent extremists (when possible), rather than kill them, then wouldn't he have set a better example for children across the globe?

An Open Letter to President Barack Obama (12/12/09)

Dear Mr. President,

Some time ago, I watched you make a brilliant speech about the cycle of racism, and the potential we have to break that cycle. It gave me hope that one day you would speak just as accurately about the cycle of extreme violence and how it can be broken. Will you? When you speak of America's "evil enemies", how come there is no mention of their children? Their children (like their parents) were born into a cycle of fear, leading to hatred, which leads to the sickness often labeled as "evil". How do we break this vicious cycle? How do we reach the children of violent extremists? How do we teach them a new way? If more effort was made to CATCH violent extremists rather than kill them, then wouldn't it set a better example for their (our, all) children? Although force may be necessary in certain situations, how much potential is there to constructively use high tech non-lethal weaponry, rather than lethal force? How much potential is there to educate children and show them examples of former combatants who were able to break the cycle of extreme violence? If more money were spent on providing peace education, rather than building more bombs, then wouldn't we be doing more to break the cycle? If more were done to relieve people of extreme poverty, then wouldn't there be less of the fear and desperation that leads to extreme violence?

Mr. President, millions of peacemakers will continue to study and explore humanity's great potential to evolve beyond the cycle of war. Will you join us?

Sincerely,

Yaron Fishman

Before that trip was through I was moved to try a small-scale social experiment. One morning I joined the train, and switched out every newspaper in one carriage for the Positive News, then sat back to observe.
*

The morning passengers boarded the train, absent-mindedly picked up 'their' paper as they sat; flip.., flip..., flip....; quizzical look..; double-check front cover. From that moment there was a distinct divergence of reactions; one was an instant discard, and the other was renewed interest and a dive-back-in-with-relish. I watched as these early morning commuters began to really read and, ultimately, to disembark with 'their' copy of the Positive News.

But there is a very real aspect to so-called 'bad' news attraction, and it is present in relation to the John Lennon NPR story. The interviewer, David Sheff, was profoundly moved by this very intimate domestic invite into the lives of John & Yoko and their young son Sean; every day for 3 weeks he got to be in their home and talk about everything and anything under the sun. Then, 2 days after the interviews were published, John Lennon was shot dead. I don't not want to know this in the context of the story. David Sheff, was rocked to his foundations and, as a 22-year old, by his own accounting, it became a defining episode in his young life.

*

Most all of us have had the experience of not being told something that is important to us. That too can be traumatizing and may play into what has emerged as a dominant cultural trait; we want to know everything but then the horrific-on-a-grand-scale tends to have the most charge and, unwittingly, leave an insidious residue in our emotional body, with knock-on effect over the longterm, to the physical.
*

As humans, we are not designed to process endless waves of shock-horror.The effect can be crippling.., and maybe that's "lamestream" news.

*
I think it was Dr. Andrew Weill first said in Spontaneous Healing, if you really can't unhook from what is being dished up as 'news', at least delay tuning in until the so-called 'news' is a week old. Then, it has been found, the undermining/diminishing effect (that makes you sick, literally) is itself diminished.

*

Now Concerning "Utterly":

There is so much that we know now, about consciousness and energy, that requires us to step up and be responsible for our actions. Everything is energy. Energy is vibration.
There is so much that we know now, about consciousness and energy, that requires us to step up and be responsible for our actions. Everything is energy. Energy is vibration. Thought is a measurable wave form. Our energy effects the energy of others. Positive energy waves are large, and cancel out shorter, smaller, negative energy waves. And yet it is hard to find anything but negativity in the media. Our brains process everything that we perceive - what we watch, listen to, and read. Why are we content to fill our lives with such smallness. Positive media is necessary.

I work in schools with teenagers, many of whom do not have positive influences at home. They tell me they don't like Rihanna anymore because "it's her fault that Chris Brown is in the trouble he's in" - they are declaring that his beating her was alright. Kids are grabbing each other's body parts in the hallway, thinking that's flirting. It is difficult to find anything on television that models functioning relationships. It is difficult to listen to pop =popular radio, and find music that doesn't have explicit sex and excessive drinking as it's subject. We can't continue to allow money to be the only bottom line. How can we allow those in charge of the media to live in two separate worlds; one saying that television doesn't influence our behavior and the other taking millions of advertising dollars from companies who are willing to pay that kind of money to influence our behavior.

Please don't get me wrong. I do believe in freedom of expression. I am not about censoring. I just believe that the current governing philosophy that things need to be sensationalized, sexual, exploitive, demeaning, barbaric, rude and high-speed is so overexposed that we are now poised and ready for other ways of expression.

I'm moved daily by beauty and acts of kindness and expressions of love and joy, and often I hear the thought in my head "I wish everyone could see this"! I am so thankful for outlets like MyPeace.TV, Postive Message Music Association, Spiritual Cinema Circle, The Peace Alliance and countless other organizations who are all about being the change they wish to see. Spread the news that we're ready for some new ways. We don't need to obliterate what no longer serves us - that is using negative to combat negative. We need to proliferate what does serve us -anything that extends love, joy and peace.
