Profile Information

About Me/Us:
I am a grandmother from Afognak Island, close to Kodiak Island in the Gulf of Alaska. My grandmother's dad came from Sweden, Dr. Herrmann von Scheele. His dad was a Dr. also, had his own pharmacy, studied in his own lab and discovered oxygen, barrium, dangerous stuff and he died in his own lab. I am the oldest of 8 children, my mom was one of 6, she was born in South Naknek and her dad's mom is from Hooper Bay area I was told and she married a Saami Reindeer Herder who brought all these reindeer and taught reindeer husbandry, owned these herds of reindeer. My grandmother was a teacher, her dad sent all his girls off to College to become teachers and all but one returned to Alaska and taught under those BIA contracts. My grandmother was carted around on fishing boats to our Villages and that is where she met my grandpa. They lived in the Schoolhouse in South Naknek. My grandparents split up when my mom was 5 and Grandma took her children back to Afognak Island where she re-married and I have one more Auntie who is only a couple of years older. I loved growing up on the Islands. Every summer we would travel by one of my uncles or grand uncles fishing boats to Afognak Island. We spent school year on Kodiak Island. I was 11 at the time of the 1964 earthquake and tidal wave that wrecked our home on Kodiak Island and my grandma lost one of her son's, my uncle Harry Neilsen as well as her house. My folks eventually moved off The Rock to the Mainland and I spent my senior year at East High, got out in January and attended Anchorage Community College and attained a Secretarial Services Certificate in 8 months. My first job was as a Secretary for Alaska Federation of Natives in the On-the-Job-Training Program. When Pres. Nixon signed the Alaska Natives Claims Settlement ACT it was without our consent, without it being put into our 22 languages, our Elders were not consulted, it was not explained to them. The United States CORPRATIZED our lands and territories, our rights have been violated according to the 1790 Indian Trade and Intercourse ACT with this TAKING in the GUISE of Corporate STOCKS representing our lands, our territories, our water, our air, the resources that we have relied on since time immemorial. Our lands, our resources have been weaponized against me, my family, my relations, the entire First nations and peoples of Alaska. This is wrong. We are a peaceful people and we know that by raising arms we will not win. No country has ever declared openly and lawfully WAR upon us. We are not some countries BOOTY to take and abuse. There are international treaties recognizing our rights to full self governance. Is this truly a venue that can assist us in our stand, our peoples are suffering the effects of colonialism inthe military/industrial occupation of Alaska. This is without our fully informed consent, this taking. Even the United States Supreme Court system, has affirmed in several of their cases: 1. Russia could not sell what Russia did not own. 2. All the United States received was a mere quit claim deed .... to the 116,400 square feet of those forts that the Russians were allowed to TRADE/reside in, they only left their FORTS with an Indian escort. We have warred upon Russian attempts to go beyond their trading matters. We have many stories around Alaska, from our Elders speaking of standing up against outsiders: Chinese, Russians and the United States Army left Alaska for many years and only returned when the Japanese conflict arose. The United Nations Charter, Article 73e recognizes Alaska and Hawai'i as non-Self-Governing and put thier nations on the list of territories that are to attain and reach their full nationhood status. The statehood constitution is another document/process without our consent, see Article V. Section 1 of their Constitution. 1921 Indian Citizenship violations! Anyway. Peace. Gramma in Alaska, Standing on the Ground. I reserve and preserve all my rights.
