One will be the symbolic march of an international and intercultural team whose journey will pass through six continents. It will start on October 2, 2009 -- the International Day of Nonviolence -- in Wellington, New Zealand, and will culminate on January 2, 2010 at the foot of Mount Aconcagua in Punta de Vacas, Argentina. During this time, in hundreds of cities around the world, there will be marches, festivals, forums, conferences, and other events to create consciousness of the urgent need for Peace and Nonviolence. The development of these initiatives is open to any person, organization, school, collective, group, political party, business, etc., that shares the same aspirations and endorses the March’s proposals. The World March is a call to all people to unite and take responsibility for changing the world, to overcome personal violence, and to work together for peace in their immediate environments and as far as their influence may reach. You can go to an official site for more information.
If you click on the name of the Canadian organiser on their contact page, it'll link you to a contact form to fill out. You'll then get an e-mail from him (it IS a him in this case), and you can just ask for info or - better still - volunteer to help.
There, they also have a map of the March.
Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver are the 3 Canadian cities due for an official visit, though the map doesn't give any dates for them. (It does for some cities.)
But don't forget that - even if the official group doesn't come to your hometown - you can organise something there yourself, and publicise it on official web-sites. So you'll be part of the March, even if you're off the beaten path.
Can anyone assist me is their to be a march or cultural event planed for Toronto Canada I can't seem to find a link anywhere the lists planed events throughout Canada yet. thank you Mike
Answer to imagineforlennon 2 comments ago ["I wish a group was close to where i lived for march for peace."]:
It is exactly in places where there ARE no groups where we need someone like you. The whole idea of the March (well, OK, not the WHOLE idea!) is for groups AND individuals to initiate activities wherever they are!
This is supposed to be a Worldwide phenomenon.
That includes Juneau!
Drum up a few friends. Some who AREN'T "only in it for the money" (HEY! Isn't that a ZAPPA album???) I'm going to organise a "circus" where the less talent the acts have, the BETTER (a circus where even the strong man is a clown).
Get people in Juneau talking about Peace!
"[They] may say that [you're] a dreamer...
But [you're] not the only one!
[We] hope some day [they'll] join us
And the World
Will live as One."
I wish a group was close to where i lived for march for peace. My old High School did a "walk for peace" but it wasn't really for peace......the dam group just did it for money. materialistic bastards. lol
