Thanks to the support and hard work of you and millions around the world, Earth Hour 2010 was a HUGE success!
Together, we accomplished an incredible thing. Earth Hour 2010 is being described as the largest mass action in history. We grew the movement to include tens of millions of people in thousands of communities in 125 countries around the world. Almost every conceivable iconic landmark across the globe went dark. With one voice, the people of the world delivered a powerful message: We care about our planet and are ready to make the switch to a low-carbon economy that will create jobs and protect us from dangerous climate change.

Even though Earth Hour is over, there is still more work to do. The climate and energy crisis facing our country requires action by our government. President Obama has called on Congress to pass clean energy and climate legislation this year that will create jobs, make America more energy independent and stave off the worst consequences of climate change. A bipartisan trio of Senators John Kerry (D-Mass.), Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), and Joe Lieberman (I- Conn.) is hard at work drafting such a bill and they expect to introduce it by Earth Day.

So we are closer than ever to finally tackling the interconnected challenges of climate change, dependence on foreign oil and rebuilding our economy. But we won't get across the finish line unless Senators hear loudly and clearly that this a top priority for Americans. This is where you come in.

How can you help?

First, call your Senators and ask them to support passing the bipartisan clean energy and climate bill. We've set up a special hotline to connect you directly to your senators: 1-800-217-7379

Join the Earth Day Revolution. On April 22, the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, concerned citizens across America will continue the Earth Hour momentum and come together to issue a collective call for action on climate change. Find out how you can be part of this historic moment and help spread the word at EarthDayRevolution.com.

Earth Hour has shown that, together, we can change the world. This is our moment. Join us.

World Wildlife Fund is proud to announce Earth Hour 2010 will take place Saturday, March 27, at 8:30 pm. National Monuments including Mount Rushmore, the Empire State Building, the Las Vegas Strip, and the Golden Gate Bridge have already pledged to participate.
Standing nearly one billion people strong, we made last year’s Earth Hour the single largest mass action in human history.
World Wildlife Fund has worked tirelessly to bring the international community, governments around the world and corporate leaders to the brink of breakthrough action on climate change in 2010. That's why it's so important we make our voice heard again.

Please join millions of people around the world in turning off the lights for Earth Hour to raise awareness and demand action to fight climate change. Grow the movement by sharing this message with your friends and family. Working together, we can overcome one of the greatest challenges facing our planet.

Visit their new site at EarthHour.org to access to videos and toolkits to help grow the movement as well as fantastic ideas on how to make Earth Hour a special event in your home, community or business.

In remarks just after noon (CET, 18 December 2009) at the summit on climate change in Copenhagen, Denmark, President Obama said "it’s time for the nations and people of the world to come together behind a common purpose. We must choose action over inaction; the future over the past — with courage and faith, let us meet our responsibility to our people, and to the future of our planet."

International Day of Climate Action this Saturday October 24th
www.350.org
It looks like the International Day of Climate Action this Saturday October 24th will be the single most widespread day of political action the planet has ever seen - we're closing in on 170 nations, and more than 4,000 rallies and events. There's something happening near you - if you're not sure what, this link will let you find out quickly and easily: http://www.350.org/map.

People in all those cities and towns all around the world will be saying the same thing: science tells us that we can't have more than 350 parts per million CO2 in the atmosphere if we want a planet like the one on which we were born. That sounds complicated, but it isn't - 350 is the bottom line for the Earth.

President Obama is scheduled to give a major climate speech on Friday, and the Senate is set to hold hearings on its global warming bill on Tuesday¹. This will be one of the last best chances to make the support for much stronger efforts unmistakably loud and clear. Your efforts this weekend will be doing double duty helping with the fight in Copenhagen and also on Capitol Hill.

wish I would have known about this sooner, but still wanted to share

Dramatic Walrus Footage Highlights Climate Change Threats

In early September, U.S. Geological Survey researchers flying over the Arctic shorelines of Russia and Alaska spotted a massive herd of walruses congregating on the shore near Icy Cape. Days later, flying over the same spot, they captured dramatic high definition footage of the carcasses of some of the 131 walruses, mostly calves and yearlings. What happened? Find out here http://www.worldwildlife.org/climate/act-for-our-future/walrus.html?enews=enews0910t

These alarming conditions do not just raise concerns about the fate of iconic species such as walruses and polar bears—our own future is at stake. The planet is changing in dangerous and unpredictable ways and the longer we wait to address the climate crisis the costlier it will be. It is critical that the Senate pass a climate bill this year and take an important step forward toward reaching a global agreement in Copenhagen

Urge your Senators to Protect the EPA's Ability to Curb Global Warming Pollution
Earlier this year, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) complied with a Supreme Court ruling requiring it to assess the threat of global warming by determining that heat-trapping emissions are pollutants that endanger public health. This move would allow the agency to regulate global warming pollution from power plants and automobiles under the Clean Air Act. But now the Senate is poised to undo this critical progress.

In the next few days, the Senate is expected to vote on a bill that includes amendments that would block the EPA’s ability to fight global warming.

Not only would this action be a huge setback for our efforts to curb climate change and move America toward a clean energy future, but it would also send the wrong message to the world community at a critical moment. This week, several international meetings addressing global warming are taking place in New York and Pittsburgh. After eight years of backpedaling, it’s essential that the United States step up and play a leadership role in pushing for international climate action.

Please urge your senators to signal their support for strong climate action—here and internationally—by protecting the EPA’s ability to curb global warming.
