... or spend half an hour creatively on MyPeace?

A friend "liked" this on Facebook, so I visited the site months ago and spent over half an hour, doing pretty well with the answers, reaching quite a high level. When I decided to stop, I found out that I had won less than 1 500 grains of rice for the 3rd World. What's that? A sparse meal (ONLY rice) for 2 or 3 children for half an hour of my time?

I don't LIKE being a wet blanket. And if you are addicted to computer games, want to spend time improving your vocabulary (randomly and arbitrarily, often with words that you'll never actually use again), this is a fun way of spending your time. And I don't deny its usefulness with schoolchildren (a LOT better than some of the games they waste their time with on Internet). Also, if there are more than a million visits per day to this quiz, the cumulative effect must do quite a lot of good.

But if you're looking - on a personal level - for a way of helping others, you could spend your time MUCH effectively, and do a LOT more good, volunteering with any of a wide range of organisations.

‎"Why should there be hunger and deprivation in any land, in any city, at any table, when man has the resources and the scientific know-how to provide all mankind with the basic necessities of life?"
~Martin Luther King, Jr.
